I like to travel. However, I don’t like going to the same destinations all the time. I enjoy variety and I’m thrilled when I discover places to visit. I’ve added the following destinations to my travel bucket list and you should to. These four off-the-beaten path travel destinations will offer rejuvenating experiences, fun family activities, and ample bonding opportunities.
Rock City, GA
If you want to explore majestic trails, caves, and mountains, Rock City, Ga is a great vacation destination. Located six miles from Chattanooga, TN, it is the home of Lookout Mountain. To one side of the mountain you have Ruby Falls, often referred to as Lover’s Leap. Situated at the top of the mountain is Rocky City Gardens. You and your family can explore over four thousand feet of walking trails and take in scenic rock formations, caves, and foliage. When you’re done exploring, take a break at the newly renovated Homewood Suites by Hilton Chattanooga-Hamilton Place.
Hunting Island, SC
If relaxation, and a unique bonding experience is what you’re in search of, Hunting Island is the place to settle. The location offers approximately five miles of pristine beaches, frequented by loggerhead turtles, and wood storks, as well as maritime forest, and saltwater lagoon. In addition to these natural attractions, you can also visit the only publicly accessible lighthouse in the state.
Hershey, PA is “The sweetest place on Earth.” What began in 1902 as green space, quickly evolved into the modern day Hershey Park. The park features a zoo, rose and butterfly garden, and several rides. You can also visit Chocolate World where you can take a chocolate making tour or see a show at the 4D Chocolate Mystery Theater. For those who have a sweet tooth, you can craft your own candy bar, or immerse yourself in a chocolate bath. From chocolate omelets to simple chocolate candy, it’s a chocolate tasting experience your family won’t soon forget. Be sure to settle in at Homewood Suites by Hilton Harrisburg where you will have easy access to other attractions such as Civil War Museum and Gettysburg Battlefield, State Farm Show Complex, or the Giant Center hockey arena. This hotel also offers a putting green, swimming pool, and a sports court for basketball or shuffleboard.
Chincoteague Island, VA
Situated on the Eastern shore of Chesapeake Bay, Chincoteague is Virginia’s only resort island. The location gained national attention in the 1961 film “Misty of Chincoteague” and is home to Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. This beautiful destination offers a chance for you and your family to break out your bikes and binoculars as you pass wild ponies and other wildlife on the trials of the refuge.
When you’re planning your next vacation, these destinations should be at the top of your list. The are fun, accessible, and family-friendly.
