According to the College Board, the average cost of tuition and fees for the 2015–2016 school year was $32,405 at private colleges, $9,410 for state residents at public colleges, and $23,893 for out-of-state residents attending public universities.

Because of these steep prices, many deserving students don’t get an opportunity to attend college. To ease the financial burden and help these students to attend the school of their choice, Coca-Cola started the Pay It Forward Program, a movement to uplift and inspire the next generation of teens to realize their dreams through education, unique mentorship experiences, and scholarships.

I’ve worked with the program for the past two years, and seeing the amazing students who are accepted into the program gives me hope that our country’s future is in good hands.

In 2016, the Coca-Cola Pay It Forward program will award up to 25 high school teens a $5,000 scholarship and the opportunity to attend the Coca-Cola Pay It Forward Academy. The Academy is a three-day educational development experience structured to offer valuable resources for parents and students. Parents will receive helpful tips on how to help their kids achieve academic success, manage their time, and financially prepare them for college. Students will receive information on personal branding, navigating higher education, and alternative career paths.

The Coca-Cola Pay It Forward program is open to high school teens (grades 9-12) who are 13 years of age or older. You can submit nominations online through March 31 by visiting

Fifty nominees with the highest-scoring nomination submissions will be selected from all eligible submissions. Each of the fifty semi-finalists will be notified by e-mail and required to submit his/her video recorded personal statement that explains why he/she should be selected.

Thirty (30) finalists will be selected to advance to the public voting phase, which will take place via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Twenty-five winners will be chosen to receive a $5,000 scholarship and a spot in Coca-Cola Pay It Forward Academy in Atlanta this summer.

This year, six-time Grammy-nominated R&B singer, author, philanthropist and internationally renowned film star Tyrese Gibson will serve as the program’s celebrity ambassador.

Go to as soon as possible to start nominating deserving students. Don’t miss this opportunity to help a student pursue his academic goals and start building a foundation for a successful life.
