Fall brings cooler weather and beautiful foliage, but it also brings additional risks. With kids at school and parents at work, homes are empty for several hours of the day and this can be an invitation for break-ins. According to the FBI, a burglary occurs somewhere in the United States every 15.4 seconds. Most home robberies occur between the hours of 8am and 5pm.
To keep your home safe and prevent robberies, you must make it difficult for someone to gain access to your home. This starts with creating fortified barriers.
My first line of defense is the fence that surrounds my home. The weak point is the gate that provides access to my backyard. To fortify the exterior gate, I use the Master Lock Magnum Solid Body Padlock. This sturdy lock features a 2in wide zinc body for strength and reliability. The 3/8in diameter octagonal shackle is 1-1/2in long and made of Tough-Cut™ boron-carbide, 50% harder than hardened steel, offering maximum resistance to cutting and sawing. The roller pin cylinder provides maximum pick and pry resistance. The hinged dial cover and shackle seal offers superior weather protection, and reinforced body bumper protects against scratches.
It would be easier for someone to knock down the gate than it would be to break this lock. What I like about this lock, besides its strength and durability, is that I can set my own combination. I’ve had to discard many locks in my lifetime because I’ve forgotten the combination. With the Master Lock Magnum Solid Body Padlock, I can easily reset the password in case I do forget it. The lock also has a Lifetime Guarantee which gives me peace of mind.
As an extra layer of security, I use the Master Lock Vault to store my combination and other passwords. The information is safe and secure and easily accessible from my smartphone or computer.
When securing your home, look for all areas of vulnerability and shore them up. Doors, windows, patio doors (I recommend the Master Lock Door Security Bar), and garages are areas that deserve extra attention. Burglars will bypass your home if it requires too much effort or requires more skill and tools than they possess.
Don’t let security fall by the wayside. Keep your family and you protected by securing your home. For more safety tips and products or to find a retailer near you, visit the Master Lock website and connect with Master Lock on social via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or YouTube.
