The Truth About Black Men, Prison, and College

When I was a student at Howard University, I was bombarded by with stats about African-American men and prison. People kept telling me that I was lucky because 3 out of 4 black men would end up in jail. I even attended a seminar with talk show host Montel Williams about this topic. Although I knew that black men were disproportionately represented in prisons, I couldn’t believe that 75% of African-American men would be arrested in their lifetime. As I looked around campus and saw brilliant young men striving to improve their lives and make the world a better place, I knew that these numbers had to be skewed.

This video, by Black and Married with Kids, debunks the myth and shares stats about the current state of black men, prison, and college.
