“Good Father” by Prentice Powell

Good father

Often when I’m out with my three kids, people will stop me and say, “You’re such a good father.” While I understand that they are only trying to be kind and give me a compliment, I also feel as if the bar for being a good father is set too low if all it takes is my being seen in public with my children.

Spoken word poet, Prentice Powell beautifully expresses this frustration in his poem, “Good Father.” The piece also delves into his personal experiences with custody battles, visitation rights, and the pain he feels when he’s away from his son.
